What you need to know about shipping

If you’ve got cargo to move (particularly something big), chances are you’re in need of a freight service. A freight service is simply a company that transports goods from one point to another. Whether the cargo is for residential or commercial clients, or for domestic or international delivery, there are numerous freight companies available to help meet your shipping needs.

How do they ship your goods? That depends on the company, your cargo and its destination, but the two most common methods are as follows:

Air Freight

Air freight shipping is one of the most reliable, efficient and flexible ways to do business. Many air freight companies offer a variety of time packages, including first flight and next morning service for time-sensitive shipments, and second day, third day and economy when the desire to save outweighs your need for speed. For critical or sensitive shipments, they might also offer expedited freight and white-glove services, as well as door-to-door pickup and delivery – for additional fees, of course.

Shipping Tip: Since air freight is often used for overseas shipping, be sure to look for a company with locations or partners worldwide. These connections cut down coordination problems and can keep the shipping hassle-free.

Trucking Freight

If you’d rather put your goods on the road than in the air, trucking freight might be a more appropriate choice for your cargo. Employing a variety of vehicles, from truckload to flatbed and even refrigerated, freight trucking companies are equipped to meet even your most specialized shipping needs, with flexible timelines and affordable rates.

Shipping Tip: Many trucking companies are on top of the latest shipping technology. Look for one that offers load tracking on its vehicles so you know your cargo can be traced from starting point to destination.

While some companies specialize in only one of these transportation methods, many employ both, as well as others such as ferry or barge transportation. If you’re looking to ship, do your research – start with a freight broker, or contact a number of freight companies and ask them to offer solutions for getting your cargo from point A to point B.

Freight Insurance

Whichever method of transportation you choose, make freight insurance a top priority. While most freight companies will offer insurance as part of their services, many clients opt for external insurance on their goods for optimal protection. You may also find you have an existing insurance policy that already provides extra coverage on your cargo. Before you sign on with any shipping company, ensure you are fully covered against any damage that might occur to your property.

This was the first time I shipped a motorcycle so I was a little leary about who to ship it thru. I talked in length to Jeff Crook about shipping the bike which was very helpful. When the bike was taken to the shipping point the seller said the place was immaculate Spotlessly clean. When I picked the bike up same thing. Received motorcycle in same condition as seller described properly palletized , strapped down and covered properly. If I ever ship a bike again I would definitely go thru Freight Brokers again. Very professional and kept you updated when the bike shipped and arrived. Also the prices were a difference of night and day. I do not think I could have gotten a better deal. Thanks so much for being so professional. Sincerely Paul Mushall
